The whole reality show genre is as much criticized as it is popular nowadays. And when a reality show is focused on a beauty pageant, it becomes even more popular.
The show in question has received really controversial feedback from viewers : there are parents who really disapprove of the program and would never pressure their children to put on fake eye-lashes, hair extensions or spray-tan as the contestant in the beauty pageant do; yet, on the other hand, there are also parents who are really eager for their children to participate and extremely proud if their offsprings happen to win.
However, the show does raise a lot of questions regarding its benefits and harms towards children. If a child wins and is praised by everyone as beautiful and talented, especially by its parents, it will most probably benefit from the whole experience. Yet, if the child happens to lose the contest and doesn’t receive any prize, the event might affect it really badly in the long run according to children psychologists. Also, it can be quite dangerous if parents get obsessed with their child winning : thus, if the child doesn’t achieve the desired goal it might start considering itself “unworthy”.
The important thing to remember is that children’s well being is above all and nothing than can harm them in any way should turn into parents’ focus.
