The low battery notification has to be one of the most annoying and frustrating features of our phones and tablets. However, a pair of smart shoes might be able to save the day, since their inventors claim they could help you recharge your battery on the move.
Klevis Ylli and his team of colleagues from the Hahn-Schickard-Gesellschaft Institute of Micromachining and Information Technology located in Germany managed to put together a smart and self-rechargable shoe. The shoe is equipped with a couple of tiny devices, which can generate energy in order to power up electronics. These devices fit into the running shoes and generate small amounts of energy as you walk or run. The first one is called “swing harvester” and it draws energy and power from the swinging of your feet. The second one is called “shock harvester” and it “harvests” energy whenever you hit the ground with the heels of the shoes. These devices are based on the electromagnetic induction principle.
Even though the shoes currently generate tiny amounts of power and energy, its creators believe that in the upcoming feature they will become developed enough to charge even a smartphone or a tablet. How cool is that?
