British Paul Marshallsea was on holiday in Queensland, Australia. He was on the beach when a 6-foot shark appeared in the shallow waters all of a sudden, very close to a bunch of playing kids. Trying to protect the children, Marshallsea pulled the shark back into the deep, instead of just getting the kids out of the water which probably could have been more sensible.
Anyway, his feat was all over international news and that happened to be a problem for Marshallsea. You see, he was not exactly on vacation but on sick leave and his employers soon became aware of his shark-fighting adventures due to the footage going viral. As Marshallsea was obviously “not unfit to work but well enough to travel to Australia” as his official termination letter stated, the company fired him. Piece of advice : if you ever pretend to be sick to skip work, make sure you’re not being filmed even if you’re doing something heroic.
