What makes a pop song a hit? Is it the perfect auto-tune, the catchy melody or the pleasant lyrics?
I Kissed a Girl was the song that shot Katy Perry into fame back in the not so distant 2008. It was released as a single in April of that year and has been said to be one of the top 10 hit songs of this century. The song was recorded in 2007 and Perry actually didn’t finish it for one and a half years. Soon after it was released song critics criticized it and expressed negativity towards the lyrics, which was written by Perry, Max Martin, Cathy Dennis and Lukasz Gottwald. That same year Perry admitted that I Kissed a Girl was actually partially inspired by Scarlett Johansson’s lips.
Johansson, whose looks have become a symbol of utter beauty for men and women from all around the world, told Allure Magazine that she was surprised and flattered by this revelation.
