One desperate man hired people to “murder” his own son’s character in online games.
People can do shocking things out of desperation and this particular father is an eloquent example.
Back in January 2013 the father of a 23 year old gamer decided to take extreme measures against his son’s excessive gaming. The man, who was identified only as Mr. Feng, was concerned by the fact that his young son spent most of his time in the virtual world playing online games. Mr. Feng thought that the only way to prevent his unemployed child from playing so much was to have him “murdered”. Thus, he paid some other people to target his son’s characters and to kill him virtually. The strange practice didn’t really put off the 23 year old guy from playing, because getting murdered online doesn’t really mean that the world has ended. However, the people hired by his father kept assassinating the guy over and over again and at some point he felt the need to ask them why they do that over and over again. It’s not clear if he got the truth out of the hired killers, but official reports state that Mr. Feng has improved his relationship with his son.
Some experts have spoken out about the extraordinary case. Mark Griffits, who’s an expert on gambling and addictions, stated that he believed the son’s excessive gaming was due to some underlying problem and that his father’s approach was wrong. He also said that if a person doesn’t have a job or a family to take after, too much gaming wouldn’t really affect their life in a negative way. Olivia Grace, a World of Warcraft expert, stated that Mr. Feng’s approach towards his son’s problem probably won’t have a deterrent effect, since getting murdered in an online game is simply something that “happens all the time”.
