This might come as a shock, but worldwide fans of Veronica Mars were more willing to contribute to raising the funds for filming Veronica Mars The Movie rather than going to the cinema to watch it!
Back in the not so distant 2004 Kristen Bell became a household name for portraying the main character in the teenager crime drama TV series Veronica Mars. The show became a popular hit among teenagers worldwide and it sprung for 3 full seasons on UPN and later on The CW. Fans of the hit show were so disappointed that the series ended that they managed to pull off a successful crowdfunding campaign to raise enough funds to make the cast and crew of the series shoot a movie for their beloved Veronica Mars.
The campaign was carried on the popular crowdfunding website Kickstarter and it requested a total of $2 million to start the filming. It turned out that fans were so eager to see a Veronica Mars movie happening that they immediately started donating money and the $2 million goal was achieved in less than 10 hours! By the end of the campaign fans from all around the world had managed to raise more than $5.7 million!
However, it turned out that they were more willing to contribute to raising the funds for the movie rather than going to the cinema to watch it. During its opening weekend Veronica Mars The Movie made less than $2 million. Its overall grossing was estimated as $3, 485, 127, which is nothing compared to the $5, 702, 153, which the fans contributed during the crowdfunding campaign. Oh, well, maybe they just didn’t want to watch the movie as much as they just wanted it to be made.
