Lawrence Anthony was a famous conservationist and author known as the “Elephant Whisperer”. When he died earlier this year, two herds of wild elephants walked through the Zululand bush to reach the house of the man who saved their lives.
Just a few years ago these elephants were considered violent pests and it was decided to shoot them. However, Anthony managed to save them and to rehabilitate them. The man is a real legend who has written three books about animals, and is famous for his gift to calm violent and traumatized animals.
Lawrence Anthony’s family witnessed a unique procession as the wild elephants came to their property in the South Africa Thula Thula reserve. The animals stayed for two days, obviously wanting to express their sorrow at the loss of their beloved saviour.
Anthony’s son Dylan expressed surprise that the two herds arrived soon after his father’s death. According to him the trip must have taken them about 12 hours. It still remains a mystery how the animals knew that Anthony had died.
