Power blackouts are quite normal for many parts of the world. In fact, they occur quite often thanks to natural disasters or simply technical prophylaxis. But when a massive blackout hit California it stirred quite the buzz in Los Angeles.
Back in 1998, more than 350,000 buildings in Southern California were affected by a massive power outage. According to official reports, many people living in the City of Angels called the 911 emergency hot line because they were seeing strange clouds covering the sky. They were extremely scared because they never had the chance to see the stars in all their glory thanks to the massive light pollution over the city.
The “clouds” they were seeing were actually particles of the Milky Way, which was shining above Los Angeles at that time.
