There’s no doubt that John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was a genius. From creating a great number of made up languages and dialects to coming up with a whole new universe – the man had greater brains than most authors have these days. However, he wasn’t that great when it came to technology.
Back in the first half of the 20th century Tolkien had already published The Hobbit, which nowadays amazes cinema goers all around the world. After The Hobbit Tolkien published The Lord of the Rings, but it took him nearly a decade and a half to publish the very first volume of The Fellowship of the Ring. He had to use his typewriter and he wasn’t very good at doing so. Tolkien allegedly used only two fingers while typing away nearly 1200 pages! Not only that, but he had to retype each copy of the manuscript, because he didn’t have the needed resources to actually make copy after copy.
If only his typewriting was as adept as the flow of his imagination!
