One Indian guy has been suing the country and its government over his own birth!
Several decades ago a woman, named Vijuben Patel, went to a state clinic in Gujarat, India, to undergo a sterilization procedure. Unfortunately, after the procedure the woman still got pregnant and gave birth to a son named Rajesh. And nowadays that man is suing the country over his own birth.
As it turns out, Rajesh’s mother got so angry over the fact the sterilization procedure didn’t work out that she decided to file a lawsuit against the country’s government 2 years after her son was born. Even though her son was still a baby, she decided to put him in the lawsuit as a plaintiff. She sued the government for child support, since she believed her case was a case of medical negligence. Back in 1992, years after Rajesh was born, the Indian government was ordered to pay her 25,000 rupees (around $390 in USD). Unfortunately for the woman, the government appealed and the case got even more mixed up.
In December 2014 the court ruled out that the woman should return the money to the government. According to the judges, the sterilization procedure doesn’t guarantee 100% results and that there is always a slight possibility of failure when it comes to tubal ligation. By the time the court made this decision, Rajesh’s mother had already died, which meant that he was obliged to pay back the money.
The Indian man, who is currently serving the Indian army, has now filed a new lawsuit and is suing the government against his own birth – or in other words, he’s suing for the same thing his mother once sued. According to his lawyer, Rajesh simply wants to see some justice being served for the sake of his mother. By the looks of it, he might not get it soon.
