When you turn 33 and you are craving for a huge present, but no one is willing to buy you one, there’s only one thing left to do – steal one. At least that’s what one guy tried to do in December 2013.
33 year old Samuel McDonough decided it would be awesome to steal a boat. However, it couldn’t have been just any boat – it had to be a 480-ton ferry. McDonough thought it would be extremely easy to highjack the Victoria Clipper ferryboat and operate it from Seattle, US, to Canada. It turned out the man was in no position to operate the huge boat and was lucky to disembark in one piece when a SWAT team managed to anchor the $8 million ferry, seven hours after McDonough stole it.
The man was arrested and sentenced to 2 and a half years behind bars. According to reports, McDonough told the police he had stolen the ferry as a birthday gift for himself.
