It’s a common saying that decent grades isn’t all you need to achieve in life. And this might just show that it’s true. There’s often a lot of talk about how GCSEs don’t prepare you well enough for life, and that to really do things, you need more common sense than anything else.
Well, Gemma Worrall, is 20 years old, and has 17 GCSEs all with grade C or above, as well as 2 A levels. She decided to send a tweet about the British President:
If barraco barner is our president why is he getting involved with Russia, scary
Well, that just goes to show that those GCSEs really haven’t paid off, with her spelling Barack Obama wrong, as well as saying that he’s our president. However, Gemma quickly brushed this off saying that auto-correct on her phone made the mistakes occur. Since the tweet, she received threads and other unkind tweets, but also some nicer tweets about her giving people a laugh.
It is said to have happened in the early hours whilst she couldn’t sleep, and she is adamant that the auto-correct made the mistake for the name, but she does admit that she made the mistake about the president of the UK.
The tweet was re-tweeted around 7,000 times within only 12 hours!
Her GCSEs include the standards, as well as Business Studies, Religious Education, Textiles, Technology and Media Studies.
At the time, Gemma says that she was very worried for her parents’ safety after the threats she received, and her grandma was surprised at how quickly the tweet got around, saying that this is a parable about the effect of social media.
#barracobarner was also trending, and a troll account Barracobarner was set up which got over 1,500 followers.
Gemma says that now she looks back on the incident and laughs about it. It all was just a big mix up.
