As extreme as it may sound, Ronja Oja from Helsinki doesn’t let her disability ruin her joy of skating. The only problem is that sometimes she gets lost and has to call somebody to pick her up. Of course, in her situation it could be a little difficult to explain where exactly she got lost.
But BlindSquare comes to the rescue! The fantastic application developed by Ilkka Pirttimaa collects data from FourSquare and Open Street Map. It looks up and information about your surroundings and delivers the results by speech.
All you have to do is start the app and shake your smartphone. You receive info about the current address and the streets around you.
Even better, you can set up favorite places and the app will tell you when one of them is nearby! The developer asked Ronja to test the app before its official launch and she has been using it daily ever since, not only when she gets lost, but also to discover new places in the city.
