In a world where everyone is playing for the win comes a game for losers. By “losers” we literally mean people who lose at something.
Zach Gage, the inventor of Lose/Lose, created a video game with real-life consequences. The rules are simple: you’re a shooter, the enemies are aliens.
However, the aliens are actually generated from files on your computer’s hard drive. Whenever you kill an alien, the same thing happens to the file – it’s permanently deleted. And if that doesn’t sound bad enough, the game chooses random files to generate aliens meaning it can destroy your whole system!
So how do you beat the game? As you have only one life the aliens won’t attack you. However, if they touch you, you die. Fortunately or not, if you die in the game the application itself will be destroyed. As you can see you’ll lose either way.
‘Lose/Lose’ was created in 2009 and Gage states on his website that the alien-generating code came from a collaboration project he did back in 2007 for Domani Studios.
