Chocolate is without doubt one of the greatest foods on this planet. However, it also has to be one of the unhealthier ones. Fortunately, there’s a fruit that tastes just like chocolate, but contains less fat and more vitamins.
It might come as a shock, but the black sapote is usually used as a chocolate substitute. It’s a fruit that grows mainly in Central America and Mexico and is also known as Chocolate Persimmon and Chocolate Pudding Fruit. The black sapote resembles a green tomato, but belongs to the persimmon species. It tastes just like chocolate pudding, but has much less calories than the famous dessert. Furthermore, not only is this fruit low on fat, but it’s also rich on vitamins. The Chocolate Pudding Fruit is reportedly 4 times richer in vitamin C than the orange fruit.
In Mexico the fruit is served with cream, brandy and orange juice. It can also be served with yogurt or used as a substitute for chocolate in milkshakes or recipes.
