The Principality of Sealand is a country situated on Maunsell sea fort (a small fortified tower) in the North Sea, just seven nautical miles off the coast of England. The person to first occupy the fort and proclaim it an independent country was named Paddy Roy Bates who took control over the facility with the help of his family and friends in 1967. The country claims has claimed its sovereignty since 1975, having its own constitution and other national symbols established. The world’s smallest nation also has its own flag and its own purported currency which is the Sealand dollar.
The area of Sealand is 5,900 sq ft which is all the liveable space. The organisational structure of the country is Constitutional Monarchy with Prince Michael, Bates’s son as head of state. As of 2002, the population of Sealand consists of 27 people.
