Situated in the Southeastern part of Turkey the city of Batman on the Batman river is truly one of a kind. The population of the town is predominantly Kurdish and mostly all of the people make a living by working in the oil industry.
The town became quite popular when the mayor Huseyin Kalkan threatened to sue Warner Brothers and more specifically Christopher Nolan for using the name “Batman” without exclusive permission.
The mayor’s explanation about his actions was that the huge success of the series featuring the “The Dark Knight” was responsible for major psychological damage on the residents and the increase of unsolved murders. According to the mayor the female suicide cases in the city have doubled due to the movies. Mayor Kalkan insists he has proof that the city was established before the 1939 debut of DC Comic’s caped vigilante which gives him the right to sue Warner Bros.
Up until this day Christopher Nolan and Warner Brothers have not yet been served with a lawsuit.
