In case you have ever wondered how to save the planet, here’s a possible solution : just buy it. It has become a trend among millionaires to purchase entire ecosystems all over the globe with the only goal of turning them into conservation spaces thus preventing environmental catastrophe.
Johan Eliasch, the owner of Head – the ski and sporting equipment manufacturer, has bought a 400,000 acres area in the Amazon rain forest. Eliasch, whose wealth is estimated at $564 million, claims that deforestation is more to blame for carbon emissions than transportation. The Swedish millionaire has stated that about 80m tons of carbon are trapped in the forest which is approximately the same amount all people in Sweden combined will produce for more than a decade. According to Eliasch the only way of saving the Amazon as well as other forests from deforestation is to acknowledge it as a main provider of the world’s oxygen and fresh water.
