The oldest verified person on our planet lived from 1875 to 1997 – a full 122 years. Her name was Jeanne Calment. However, by the looks of it, there might be another woman ready to take the record.
Leandra Becerra Lumbreras turned 127 on the 31st of August 2014. She fought in the Mexican Revolution in the 1910s and she was only 27 years old when World War I began. By the age of 82 Leandra, who’s from Mexico, learned that we had successfully landed a human on the Moon for the very first time. According to her family, she even used to sew and weave at the age of 125. So how has Leandra managed to live such a long life? Her secrets are two: staying active regardless of her age and eating chocolate. She has outlived many children and grandkids, but she still keeps fighting against time.
Unfortunately, the Mexican government can’t verify her age yet because she lost her original birth certificate nearly 40 years ago.
