A horror movie from 2012, starring Toby Hemingway and Christian Slater, made a mere $ 264 at the box office including $12 from the opening night. Directed by Michael A. Nickles, ‘Playback: Bloodline or The Fist Blood Adventure’ took almost 2 years to be made and had a budget of $7.5 million.
When it was first released in March 2012 ‘Playback’ was shown in one single movie theater in the US. The official box office gross was $252 and the movie was declared the lowest grossing movie in 2012. The gross sum actually adds up to about 33 tickets sold in total for the opening week.
The movie has an impressive cast, poster and soundtrack but failed to attract viewers. The plot involves a group of high school students who unlock an evil force, which possesses them through video playback and forces them to do horrible things. This evil comes from a dark secret of a violent mass killing which occurred in the town years ago.
The fact is, though, that neither Christian Slater, neither the twisted plot managed to persuade the viewers to go see Playback in a movie theater. Hopefully for the producers, more than 33 ‘Playback’ DVDs have been sold since the movie’s DVD release last year.
