The artist who was born as Calvin Broadus on the 20th of October, 1971 in Long Beach, California is one of the most influential rap superstars in the world. He received his nickname Snoop Dogg from his mother who thought he looked like the famous character from the Peanuts cartoon.
For the past two years Snoop Dogg has been working tirelessly to reinvent himself. He is currently known as Snoop Lion, a nickname given to him by the Rastafarian priests of Jamaica. The spiritually awakened former rap star is working now on his new reggae music albums and image.
After visiting Jamaica Snoop Lion was struck by the way people were living and by the lack of proper food. Malnutrition and starvation caused dreadful effects on young children and Snoop Lion decided to do something about it.
He wanted to give back to the community in Jamaica as well as in other underdeveloped countries worldwide. The music artist launched a campaign that will give children access to nutritious organic food. He teamed up with local Jamaican ginger beer producers and created a non-profit organization called “Mind Gardens”. Its mission is to help communities build gardens in down-and-out areas. The is already underway in Trench Town and Tivoli Gardens, two neighborhoods in Kingston, but Snoop Lion plans on expanding it into impoverished American neighborhoods as well.
