What you are doing right now, which is probably sitting down, might actually be killing you faster than your smoking habit in case you have such.
At least this is what a study conducted by a group of distinguished scientists hired by the British Journal of Sports Medicine stated in their paper from October, 2012. An endocrinologist based at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine also confirms that if you sit for too long on a daily basis it could actually lead to your more expedited decease.
According to the researchers, sitting in your comfortable sofa for an hour and watching TV is actually cutting your lifespan with 22 minutes. In comparison, a single cigarette is shortening your life with 11 minutes. The researchers stated that 5 hours of sitting without getting up could easily be compared to smoking a whole pack of cigarettes.
In order to prevent ourselves from dying sooner, the researchers recommend getting up and walking around for short periods of time every 20 minutes during the day. The specialists stated that it would also have a great effect on the body’s metabolism.
