Soldiers who are sent on a military campaign somewhere overseas usually get homesick really quick. They not only miss their families and closest friends, but some of the most delicious types of food known to man – Pizza. Most of the interviewed soldiers pointed out their favorite types of food. Among the top was chosen foods was pizza and many wanted it desperately delivered to them.
In order to comply to the soldiers demands the US military gave the scientists at the lab in Natick, Massachusetts the task to create a reliable and tasty MRE (meal-ready-to-eat) pizza. On the 6th of February the team of researchers and food testers created their very first MRE pizza that has a shelf life of over 3 years. The scientists used special technology to change the acidity of the dough, cheese and sauce in order to prevent bacteria from growing. They also created a special packaging that sucks out all the air and preserves the pizza slices nice and tasty.
Although the scientists at the Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center are set to design and create soldier gear they also work relentlessly on bringing the best comfort food to the US soldiers.
