If you’re currently playing GTA V on your Xbox 360 or Dance Central on Kinect, you probably think the Xbox is the coolest and the bestselling game platform there is. Wrong!
Long before the Xbox became popular among teens and adults from all around the world PlayStation had already launched their PlayStation 2 console. Sony released the PlayStation 2 back in March, 2000. For the upcoming 5 years Sony shipped a total of 100 million games worldwide, thus making the console the fastest selling one in all times. Nowadays there are nearly 4,000 games for PlayStation 2. On the other hand, Xbox, which was released in 2001 and early 2002, never really managed to beat PS’s numbers. There are only 369 games suitable for Xbox and Microsoft, the developing company of the platform, has managed to sell only 24 million copies. The Xbox 360 was shipped 84 million times after its release in 2005.
However, the PlayStation 2 is still the bestselling game platform with 155 million sold units for the past one and a half decade.
