An unnamed Swiss woman starved herself to death after she attempted to live only on sunlight and not eat or drink anything.
One Swiss woman watched a documentary about an Indian guru, who reportedly hasn’t eaten any food or drank any liquids over the course of the past 70 years. According to the documentary, which is entitled In The Beginning There Was Light, the man lived only off sunlight. She was so fascinated by the idea that sunlight can help you live like a plant (the practice is called Breatharianism), that she decided to try it out herself. She stopped eating in late 2010 and in January 2011 she was found dead in her home. As it turned out, the woman, who was in her 50s, starved herself to death as a result of the extreme practice.
Sadly, this isn’t the only case of people dying because they think they could live like plants on photosynthesis. Two other women have reportedly died out of starvation for the very same reasons. They went on the extreme sunlight “diet” for 21 days before their bodies finally gave up on them. One of the women died in a hospital in Australia, while the other one was a 49 year old, who died in Scotland.
The Breatharianists believe that sunlight can be transformed into energy and can recharge their organisms both mentally and physically. Unfortunately, things don’t really work that way. Valeria Lukyanova, a 29 year old Ukrainian model, who has been dubbed Human Barbie Doll because of her looks, also decided to undergo the sunlight “diet” recently. She was also convinced that she could live only on sunlight. She quit the practice before things got out of hands and managed to escape these women’s fate.
