Speed cameras and radar guns are a reckless driver’s worst fears. And speeders in Ohio can make one more addition to the above two – a police patrol’s sharp eyesight.
According to the laws in Ohio, US, police officers won’t need their radar guns anymore, since their eyesight is apparently so sharp that they can tell if a car is going over the speed limit just by looking. Seriously! Several years ago a motorist named Mark Jenney was caught speeding by an officer. A long and tedious court case followed. As it appeared, the officer couldn’t prove any breach of the law, since he was apparently “incompetent” when it came to using the radar gun. However, the judge still ruled the case in favor of the police.
Since officers use their radars only if they first believe a motorist to be speeding, the judge ruled that the officer was perfectly capable of spotting a speeding vehicle without using any piece of technology.
