In May 2013 an astonishingly heart-warming act of camaraderie and support occurred in front of an Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona.
It was Graduation day for more than eighty kindergarten students, but the occasion was even more special for one little 5-year-old girl named Tatum Raetz.
The father of Tatum was a police officer in the Phoenix Police Department since 2007 and a veteran from the Iraq war. Sadly, the brave 29-year-old police officer, Daryl Raetz lost his life just days before his daughter’s Graduation ceremony. He was fatally injured during a horrific accident while he investigated a DUI case. He will always be remembered by his family, friends and colleagues.
During the Graduation ceremony the police officers and colleagues of the late Daryl Raetz decided to surprise his little girl and attend the event. More than 300 police officers dressed in uniforms gathered in front of little Tatum’s school and stood beside her on behalf of her late father. The officers clapped, cheered and congratulated the 5-year-old daughter of their colleague fallen in the line of duty. According to the police department’s spokesperson the look on Tatum’s face was beyond priceless.
