Missy Elliott is a famous rapper, dancer, song-writer, actor and singer and the only female rapper with six platinum albums. She has sold more than 30 million copies of her records in the USA alone and has five Grammy awards. Her best known hits include “Pass That Dutch;” “Hot Boyz;” and “One Minute Man”.
Missy’s real name is Melissa Arnette Elliott. She was born on July 1, 1971 in Virginia and is an only child. Her mother is a coordinator in a power company and her father is a marine.
As a little girl Melissa was the class clown and knew from an early age that she wanted to become a performer. Elliott liked going to school mostly because of the friends she had there. She wasn’t much interested in school work but her IQ test placed at a level high above the average. She therefore skipped two years and started studying with older kids. However, Melissa wasn’t happy with this situation and felt isolated. She deliberately failed her exams, so that she could return to the class appropriate for her age where her friends studied.
