Marc Cuban is a billionaire and the owner of the Dallas Mavericks. However, Mr. Cuban is certainly anything but a person you can easily get along with. He has been fined for misconduct multiple times during his 14 year team ownership and the fines have reached as much as $2 million.
In 2002 Cuban verbally attacked Ed Rush, the head of NBA officiating. The Mavericks’ owner was enraged by his team’s loss and claimed that Rush couldn’t even handle managing a Dairy Queen ice cream bar. Cuban’s statement came to the knowledge of Dean Peters, Dairy Queen’s head of communications at the time. The company made a public offer to Cuban to come and work for a day at Dairy Queen and see if it actually was simple. Nobody expected Cuban to take up on the offer but he did.
A few days after the challenge Cuban showed up for work at a Dairy Queen nearby his office at 6:15 am, same as the other employees. He served the endless queues of people while media trucks were all over the block. Later Dairy Queen estimated that thanks to Cuban’s appearance they had received $10 million worth of publicity.
