Leonardo was famous among his close friends and acquaintances as an animal lover. He was so fond of all kind of creatures that he would go to the market and buy the caged animals, just because releasing them made him happy.
One of the most famous renaissance artists was the illegitimate child of a notary living in Florence area, called Sen Piero, and a peasant girl, Caterina. Leonardo was born in 1452 in the small town of Vinci , just outside of Florence. Due to his mother getting married and moving away, Leonardo’s dad had been in his father’s custody since he was a very young child.
As his father was a notary, Leonardo had access to scholarly journals and other scientific documents which helped him develop an interest in anatomy, mechanics and different fields of science. Painting was a popular tradition in Vinci so young Leonardo was also introduced to the art.
In the 1490s the artist starting recording his studies and abundantly illustrated his works most of which were in the fields of art, mechanics, anatomy or architecture.
