Nirvana was supposed to be the headliner of Lollapalooza, the famous travelling festival for alternative rock and heavy metal music, in 1994 when the band was rumored to be breaking up.
Kurt Cobain was the frontman of Nirvana, the most famous grunge band of the 1990s. He committed suicide, supposedly, on April 5, 1994 but his body was found on April 8,1994 with Cobain’s suicide note lying next to it. Even almost twenty years after the death of the iconic Seattle-born musician, there are still rumors that his death wasn’t actually a suicide and it was all staged.
The band pulled out of the festival on April 7, just a day before Cobain’s dead body was found.
Dave Grohl, the drummer of Nirvana, went to Lollapalooza in Detroit in the summer of 1994, just a few months after Cobain had passed away. Grohl was still devastated for having lost his bandmate and close friend but just wanted to get lost in the crowd. The drummer , who later started the band Foo Fighters, later shared in a magazine interview that he couldn’t hold back his tears when another band started performing a Nirvana piece. He stated that it was one of the saddest moments in his life.
