Kelly Rutherford has launched an online petition to help her win the custody over her own children.
If you thought celebrity divorces were hard, take a look at this celebrity ex-couple’s legal battle over the custody of their children and you will change your mind!
Kelly Rutherford married Daniel Gersch, a German businessman, back in 2006. They had two children – a son named Hermes and a daughter named Helena. Even though they got divorced back in 2008, they have been fighting over the custody of their children ever since then. The drama between Rutherford and her ex-husband began shortly after she tried to show the American authorities that he was doing some illegal stuff with his business. Thus, he eventually got his visa revoked and he was denied access in the United States. Even though Kelly and Daniel shared a joint custody over their two kids, Kelly tried to use Daniel’s deportation in her advantage. Unfortunately, he moved to France and somehow managed to convince a French judge that since he wasn’t allowed back in the US, the two kids should move to Europe to be with him and that their mother would be able to travel back and forth from France to the US. Things got uglier when Kelly didn’t succeed in pleading the judge’s decision and her kids were basically taken away from her.
On top of all, the actress went bankrupt in 2013 because of the millions of USD she spent on legal fees. However, she has come up with another idea on how to win the custody over her children. She has launched an online petition and is hoping to gather 100,000 signatures over the course of one month so that the White House could review her plea. Kelly’s petition has currently gathered almost 16,000 signatures and she has until the end of May this year to collect the rest.
