Would you freak out if your partner is sleeping next to you and you suddenly find out that they are sleeping with their eyes open? Because Katherine Jenkins has surely found herself in that situation.
The classical singer, who is an enviable mezzo-soprano, admitted she’s sleeping with her eyes wide open. The Welsh singer has been suffering from a rare condition called Nocturnal Lagophthalmos ever since her childhood years.
Nocturnal Lagophthalmos prevents the person from fully closing their eyelids during sleep. If it’s not treated, it can cause lower-quality sleep or eye irritation. In worst case possible it can even lead to corneal damage. Treatment can be surgical or medicine-based. For example, eye drops or punctual plugs can be used in order to prevent dryness which occurs in Nocturnal Lagophthalmos. The condition appears to affect around 10% of the world’s population.
On the topic of her condition, Katherine Jenkins also adds that she never dreams and that her mother couldn’t tell whenever she was awake or asleep.
