The 1997 film adaptation of ‘Titanic’ is one of the most successful movies of all times. It was nominated in fourteen categories and received eleven Academy Awards. The movie also helped launch the careers of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet who portrayed the fictional characters of Jack Dawson and Rose Bukater and were both 22 years old at the time of filming. The epic production ended up costing the whopping $200 million which panicked the 20th Century Fox executives. However, the movie turned out to be one of the highest grossing ones of all times and the first one to earn $1 billion worldwide.
The building of Titanic started in 1910 and finished in 1912. Back then, it cost about $7.5 million. If the ship was being built in 1997 when the movie was released, it would have cost approximately $120-150 million which is still a lot less than the actual filming.
