There is a lot of science and “know-how” behind each commercial we see trending in the digital information age we live in. For example, maybe you have noticed that in every watch advertisement regardless whether it’s on a photo or a TV ad the time shown is 10:10. That’s basically the favorite default time of all watch photographers.
After a thorough research in the depths of marketing, the New York Times gave their opinion on the subject. According to them the reason for this phenomenon in modern day watch advertisement is quite plain and simple: the clock hands showing 10:10 looks more aesthetic.
The position of the clock hands is important due to many reasons. First off, the 10:10 position is symmetrical and science has proven long time ago that our brains absolutely love accuracy and symmetry. Another reason is that usually the company logo is in the middle of the watch and the 10:10 position of the hands creates the perfect V-shaped frame. The “V” could also stand for “victory”. Last but not least, the V-shape resembles a smile which brings up the happy mood in people.
Next time your browse through a magazine keep an eye for the 10:10 position of the clock hands.
