Several years ago the citizens of central London got the shock of their lives when a street was closed after the government received reports of a chemical weapons attack. However, it turned out the attack was nothing more than the cooking of a hot sauce in a Thai restaurant.
In 2007 several people called the emergency services, believing somebody was attacking central London with chemical weapons. The heavy smell caused the closing of three roads and the evacuation of numerous people. Firefighters tried to find the source of the attack for nearly three hours. While the scared citizens were in fear for their lives, the authorities managed to trace the source of the heavy odor – it was coming from a nearby Thai restaurant. It turned out the chemical weapon was nothing more than a pot of burning chilli. The cooks were preparing a dish, called Nam Prik Pao, which is prepared with extra-hot chillies.
It’s hard to figure out who was shocked the most by the news – the cooks at the restaurant, the evacuated citizens or the authorities.
