L0pht Heavy Industries was a group of Internet hackers. They produced a software tool that would crack passwords on WindowsNT called LophtCrack. The group of seven went by the names Brian Oblivion, Kingpin, Mudge, Space Rogue, Stefan von Neiman, Jon Tan, and Weld Pond.
They said that in a matter of only 30 short minutes, they could make the whole Internet unusable by everybody for a few days if they wanted to do that. They have shared how they could be successful in doing this with a few select authorities but yet, nothing has been done to deter the problem from happening.
Mr. Neiman and the other members of L0pht testified that the components of security in many commercial problems are undeniable. The put the blame of this on the point that manufacturers of certain software cannot be held liable for the products that they have produced. In turn they make erroneous claims quite often.
