Typically, fungi are spread on the whole body, the according to the new findings, the feet, and especially the area under the toenails and the heels, seem to be the favorite dwelling of the fungi.
The experts from the National Human Genome Research Institute in Maryland explain that they have extracted samples of fungi from 14 various parts of the body, including the heel, air canal, nostrils, chest, between the toes and the eyebrows, groin, etc. They point out that these samples were taken from ten healthy adult people.
The researchers found 40 different types of fungi between the toes, 60 types under the toenails and 80 types on the heel. Other areas of the body that seem to provide excellent environment for the growth of fungi include the palm, the inside part of the elbow and the forearm.
