People say that the eyes are windows to the human soul. However, according to a new study the eyes could be so much more than a key to the person’s soul – they could be the key to solving a crime.
An experiment, which was carried out at the University of Glasgow, shows that the reflection of one’s eyes can tell the observer many things. For example, it can clearly point out the person who had taken the photograph. The experimental study used a high quality picture in order to zoom in the eye reflection of the person in the photograph. The zoomed images clearly show his surroundings and a further zoom in shows their faces – not as clear as before, but enough to be used as identification.
The experiment was published PLoS ONE journal and it suggested that this method could help the police when it comes to identifying criminals involved in kidnapping and hostage taking. In other words, it could take the fight against crime to a whole new level.
