Eminem will be releasing a new album featuring songs from the soundtrack of the upcoming movie Southpaw.
If you thought Eminem has disappeared from the music scene, you were wrong. The 42 year old rapper is releasing a brand new album and it’s going to feature songs from Southpaw’s soundtrack.
The movie is set to hit theaters worldwide on the 24th of July this year. It’s a sports drama and it will feature some big Hollywood household names such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams and Forest Whitaker. The screenplay was written by Kurt Sutter, who stands behind projects like Sons of Anarchy and The Shield. The idea for the movie was born back in 2010 and the company, which acquired the rights back then – DreamWorks Studios, wanted Eminem to play the lead role of Billy Hope – a successful boxer, who loses his wife and daughter after he resigns from boxing. DreamWorks thought Eminem would be perfect for the role, since he’s interested in boxing and has proved that he can act. However, in the end Jake Gyllenhaal took over the main role and The Weinstein Company acquired the rights to distribute the movie.
Eminem might not star in Southpaw, but he sure has some serious contribution to the project. Not only did he record the trailer song for the movie, entitled Phenomenal, but he actually recorded several other songs for Southpaw’s soundtrack. Furthermore, earlier this year it became clear that Eminem will even release a new album, which will feature the songs from the soundtrack. It’s entitled Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture Southpaw and will be released by Eminem’s labels Shady and Interscope. The album will feature various other artists, who have also contributed to the movie’s soundtrack.
Eminem’s single Phenomenal will be officially released in July.
