A little known fact is that many actors get fired during the pre-production filming of their projects. Stuart Townsend, Megan Fox and Christian Bale are just some of them. However, compared to the first two, Bale got re-hired after he had been dismissed from the role of Patrick Bateman in ‘American Psycho’.
When Bale was offered the role the first time the production company issued a press release that Leonardo DiCaprio would be playing the main role. Once Bale was let go, DiCaprio was set to be paid $20 million for his part. However, he wanted to make the character more humane instead of playing a soulless, blood-thirsty killer. Not only that, DiCaprio was convinced he wouldn’t be appropriate for the role since his fanbase consisted mostly of teenage girls thanks to his hit role as Jack Dawson in ‘Titanic’ so in the end he refused to star in the production.
Later on, Ewan McGregor was offered the role of Bateman. Christian Bale himself managed to convince McGregor to step away so the producers ended up with Bale once again.
