During filming of a scene of “The Crow” from 1994 a tragic accident occurred.
The star actor Brandon Lee, who was Bruce Lee’s son, was accidentally shot dead by another actor who used a prop gun. The actual gun was a 44 caliber Magnum and was loaded with full-powder blank cartridges. Unfortunately, no one had any idea that a real bullet head was lodged either in the barrel or the cylinder of the gun.
When the blank cartridge fired from a 12-15 feet distance the power of the explosion gave enough force for the shattered bullet tip to penetrate Brandon’s abdomen. After the shot all the actors were caught up in their own individual roles and did not realize right away that Brandon was really hurt and bleeding heavily on the floor. After the director said “cut” Brandon was rushed immediately to the hospital were he passed away on March 31, 1993. Although police investigation stated that the shooting had been an accident, there are many theories that someone wanting Lee’s death had planted the real bullet. However, none of them has been proven.
Brandon Lee’s body was taken back to Washington state where he was buried next to his father in the Lake View Cemetery.
