James Edward Franco was born in Palo Alto, California in April 1979. He had an interesting childhood before he became one of Hollywood’s top male actors.
His mother was a professional writer and an actress and his father used to run a business in the Silicon Valley. The two met while they were enrolled in Stanford University. The young James Franco was pushed by his parents to be a good student. Regardless of his parents’ advice, he used to get into a lot of trouble with the law. While in high-school he was involved in underage drinking, spraying graffiti on public property as well as stealing and selling designer fragrances. Despite all, he managed to change his ways and was able to score quite well on his SATs.
After high-school he got into the University of California as an English language major. Once again he refused to listen to his parents’ advice and dropped out in his second year of studies because he needed to pursue his acting career. Unfortunately, he had to wait two more years to audition for the acting program of the Californian university.
This is when James had to face reality. Since his parents refused to give him any money, he had to take up a job to support himself as well as to cover the expensive acting courses so he started work as a McDonald’s cashier. While working at the fast food restaurant he used to practice his foreign accents on the female customers secretly following his true passion of becoming a successful actor one day.
Soon, Franco had his first paid acting jobs. He began his career with a Pizza Hut commercial right after which his breakthrough role in the TV show “Freaks and Geeks” followed.
