The late Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniac are the original founders of perhaps one of the most successful and innovative technology companies in the world. Apple Inc. brought to the world the first customer oriented personal computer and many other gadgets that revolutionized the way we communicate, even the way we think.
There are many theories from the past regarding how the company got its signature name and logo but the most credible one is the story of Steve Wozniac. According to him Steve Jobs came up with the name by accident back in April, 1976. He had just came back from an orchard in Oregon where he worked part-time. Both co-founders were driving from Palo Alto to Los Altos and Jobs came up with the name Apple Computers during that very same trip.
Wozniac believes the name came up in Jobs’ mind either from his newfound inspiration of working at an orchard or because of his music taste. Jobs was a big fan of the Beatles and their production company at the time Apple Records. When Jobs came up with the Apple name he even threatened that if his colleagues didn’t think of a better name till 5 O’clock, just hours before the deadline for registration, they will simply go with “Apple”. Other name proposals were “Excecutex” and “Matrix Electronics” but neither appealed to Wozniac and Jobs.
In the end they stuck to “Apple” and this is how the company has been known till today.
