A man from Northern India claims he is 179 years old, which makes him the oldest person alive – and the oldest person to ever walk this planet, at least according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
Mahashta Mûrasi says he was born on the 6th of January 1835 in the Indian town of Bangalore. Somewhere in 1903 he moved to Vârânasî, where he still spends his days. The man claims he has been working as a cobbler his entire life, but decided to finally retire in 1957 at the extreme age of 122 years. The retired Mahashta claims he has seen his friends, his doctor and his grandchildren pass away in the course of the past decades, but that death has kept passing him by year after year. The man has certificates, which state that he’s indeed who he says he is – and that he is indeed almost 180 years old.
However, no medical statement can actually prove the certificates and Mahashta’s age. The last time he visited a doctor was back in the 1970s and that doctor has since died, too.
