By the looks of it the temperatures in the US are beyond freezing. And even criminals prefer to lose their chance for freedom next to freezing to death out on the run.
Recent reports state that Robert Vick escaped from a poorly guarded prison in Lexington, Kentucy, earlier this January. The 42 year old Vick had been serving a 6 year long sentence in Lexington for possession of a forged instrument and theft. According to the reports, he had walked into a motel in order to ask for help. According to Vick, help meant a call to the emergency services so that the police would put him back in jail, where his cell would apparently be warm. A spokeswoman for the Lexington police department told the media Vick had made the decision to turn himself in probably due to the cold temperatures. He received treatment for hypothermia and was put back in jail shortly after.
Although there’s no word about the comical turn in on the motel, the police spokeswoman’s statement was absolutely serious about Vick’s turn in.
