This ordinary Australian man has saved 160 lives for the past 50 years
“The Gap” is a popular suicide destination for lots of Australians. Living right next to it means encountering at least one suicidal person each week. However, this fact never made Don Ritchie move away from the popular cliff in Sydney.
Mr. Ritchie has spent the last five decades living just across the cliff’s end. His daily routine includes constant looking through the window in order to spot a potential suicidal passerby. Mr. Ritchie is not only used to the fact that his house is located on the most heated suicide location in Australia, but he likes living there. He and his wife have prevented the deaths of 160 people over the course of the past 50 years. Ritchie’s approach is simple – smile and ask the person to come in his house for a cup of tea. His friendly tactic is helping him in saving numerous lives. However, there are some cases in which Ritchie can’t prevent the suicides. Nevertheless, Ritchie doesn’t feel any guilt for those who he couldn’t save.
The 84 year old man believes someone will continue his deed when he leaves this world.
