An unnamed Asian actress used her credit card to make a purchase on Amazon and what the the site did was to obtain her personal information and post her real age on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB). When the 40 year old actress found out about this, she sued the online retailer, convinced they couldn’t have gain the data from anywhere else, except her credit card. So she filed a lawsuit for $75,000 plus $1 million in punitive damages.
But why was it such a big deal for the actress? It was, because posting the information on IMDb has caused her numerous roles. Allegedly, the actress appeared to look much younger than her age would suggest. According to her, it’s hard to be given a role if you’re 40 and you haven’t had much success as an actress. The unnamed woman was using an Americanized stage name instead of her real Asian one in order to avoid any cultural disadvantages.
It may sound shocking, but this is not the first case in which the IMDb, which is owned by Amazon, has revealed personal details about starlets.
