You might find it hard to believe, but psychologists and scientists say that if you have some memories of when you were 4 years old or younger, they could be false. The theory is that you probably made up fake memories and you didn’t even know it, or that someone else had told you about the things you remember from your early childhood.
During the first 1-2 years of your life the limbic system in your brain isn’t fully developed yet. This brain structure is involved in the memory storage and it still can’t form, store or retrieve such data. This is the reason why it’s very rare for someone to have memories from the age of 2 or 3.
Many explanations for childhood amnesia have been proposed. Some of them include Freud’s trauma theory as well as neurological and developmental reasons.
Can you recall any memories from your early childhood years? Are you sure they are real memories?
