According to a report by the National Resources Defence Council, people in the US waste $165 million each year by throwing away perfectly edible food. In other words, that’s a problem worth $165 million. In order to raise attention to this problem, a man from San Diego has taken up on an extremely unusual task.
The 27 year old Rob Greenfield from San Diego has started a project called 21 Gourmet Dumpster Meals. The project consists of eating food from dumpsters for a whole week – three dumpster meals each day. Greenfield has filled his refrigerator with various nutritious dishes from dumpsters all around the country, mainly from dumpsters behind food stores. The man’s project proves that American throw out countless amounts of food on daily basis while the country produces enough food to feed twice the amount of people living in the US.
As an addition to promote his project, Greenfield has hosted a Dumpster party at his house. According to reports, the served food included Garishes – garbage dishes, Dumparages – dumpster beverages and Trashetizers – trash appetizers.
